Gleneagles unveils its spring water

Allied Domecq subsidiary Gleneagles Spring Waters Company is launching its first branded spring water, four years after it was developed.

The company is better known as a water supplier to retailers such as Marks & Spencer.

Gleneagles Spring Water will be piloted in still and sparkling versions in the Meridian TV region. If tests are successful, a national roll-out is planned for mid-summer.

The test project will be backed by a £500,000 TV campaign created by WCRS. A £1.5m spend is planned for the national launch, with £5m support over the next three years.

The brand has been sold on a limited scale in Scotland since 1991, to protect the trade mark. The company has only decided to begin full-scale distribution after redesigning its bottles and bottling process.

Gleneagles managing director John Hamilton says the new brand will be positioned against premium bottled ranges such as Evian.
