Walkers Snack Foods is moving its £3.5m Doritos advertising account out of Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO and into BMP DDB Needham only two weeks after it took the same step with its Quavers brand.

AMV.BBDO co-ordinated the launch campaign for the Doritos brand last year although the creative work was developed by BBDO in New York.

Young & Rubicam was temporarily appointed to handle the account last year in the UK but the entire worldwide account went to BBDO in New York. BMP will handle only the UK Doritos business.

BMP is understood to have impressed Walkers with its highly successful campaign for Walkers crisps starring former footballer Gary Lineker.

The company denies it will also review AMV’s £1.7m Monster Munch account.

In a statement the company says: “AMV.BBDO is still an integral part of Walkers’ agency portfolio and retains the advertising account for the Monster Munch brand, as well as all the international advertising work for Doritos for which Walkers continues to be satisfied.”

Doritos was launched last May, backed by a £6m marketing budget and £12m of capital investment.

Walkers claimed it was its most successful snack brand launch and that Doritos has driven the tortilla chips sector from a small niche into a mass market product.
