GIS in marketing

Birmingham NEC to host GIS Show

This year’s GIS Show, organised by Blenheim Online, will take place at the NEC in Birmingham from May 23 to 25.

The organisers claim that GIS 95 will be the largest business-focused GIS event in the world. More than 120 leading GIS suppliers are expected to make an appearance.

Features will include a three-day modular conference running alongside the exhibition. This will focus on specific market sectors such as local government and utilities marketing.

The conference will cover trends in technology; geodemographics and target marketing; the benefits of GIS and how to measure them; and how to apply GIS-generated information. An implementation strategy session will look at using IT, maximising GIS technology for local government and how to integrate third-party analysis software into a utility network model. Track two on Wednesday will cover effective data management, while track three on Wednesday and Thursday morning will look at property/asset management. Other sessions will cover specific and recent case studies.

One-day business workshops will be introduced for the first time this year. Based on the theme “making GIS effective”, they will attempt to take delegates through implementation methodology.

For the first time, this year’s show will feature a Marketing Village – sponsored by Marketing Week – to promote GIS applications in marketing.
