CDP lands 6m Courts account

Courts, the furniture retailer has appointed Collett Dickenson Pearce to handle its 6m account – the fourth agency to handle the business in five years.

CDP saw off TBWA and BST.BDDP. The account was previously handled by WCRS who resigned it in April following “strategic disagreements”.

CDP is expected to run a TV push for Courts to co-incide with its plans to open a number of new outlets. Industry sources suggest Courts wants to move the brand slightly upmarket without alienating consumers.

Details of CDP’s creative strategy are still under wraps but it is expected to tread a path between Courts rather brash 1993 advertising developed by GGT, which featured grinning salesman “Mr Wonderful”, and last year’s campaign from WCRS which featured scenes from everyday family life backed by the Madness song “Our House”.

Courts is CDP’s second retail account win this month – it picked up the high street chain Littlewoods’ 3m worth of business (MW May 5).
