Menzies bolsters marketing team in new expansion drive

High street retailer John Menzies is expanding its marketing department and has appointed Research International to run a shopping survey to boost its marketing effort this year.

Two new appointments have been made to the marketing team. Nina Temple Cox is joining as advertising manager and Rebecca Heaney has been appointed loyalty co-ordinator for Menzies’ forthcoming multi-retailer loyalty programme – presently under development with Option One (MW May 19).

Retail marketing controller Ronnie Wayte is behind Menzies’ move into the loyalty scheme market. He was previously promotions manager at Shell, where he helped develop the Shell Smart programme.

“Multi-retailers like Boots, WH Smith and Woolworths have all dabbled in tactical loyalty, but no one has made a significant investment in this area,” he says.

Option One has seconded a member of staff to Menzies’ Edinburgh headquarters to develop the scheme, which will launch within the next eight weeks.

Wayte says the appointment of Research International is part of its plan to develop a national customer care programme.
