Mobile phone company Mercury One-2-One has poached Paul Donovan from rival

BT as its sales and market-ing director.

The appointment comes just weeks before the launch of an advertising campaign and pre-Christmas marketing push.

Donovan, director of on-line services for BT, will join on August 29. His appointment fills a gap in One-2-One’s structure, since the resignation of sales and marketing director Steve Dunn in March.

Business strategy director Alan Harper filled the marketing position on a temporary basis, but he also quit this month, joining rival Vodafone (MW August 4).

Harper appointed agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty to handle One-2-One’s advertising six weeks ago (MW June 30).

Donovan, who until last week denied to both press and colleagues that he was moving to Mercury, arrives just before the start of a national roll out of the One-2-One service.

He was marketing director for Coca-Cola Schweppes Beverages in 1990.

In 1992, Donovan moved to Apple Computer as mar keting director, and then head of consumer markets, where he was responsible for the launch of Apple’s Macintosh Performa consumer computer.
