Burton Group has had a major shake-up of senior marketing executives after the resignation of Debenhams head of marketing Alison Dow this week.

Burton says Dow is leaving to “pursue other interests” next month. But it is understood that she is still seeking another job.

The group, which includes fashion chains Burton Menswear, Top Shop, Principles and Debenhams department stores has moved Richard Campbell, head of marketing at Burton Menswear, into her position. Burton has yet to appoint a replacement.

Dow, who previously worked at Selfridges, has worked closely with advertising agency TBWA in developing a relaunch ad campaign for Debenhams. Advertising spend is about 12m a year, according to Register-MEAL. She worked alongside director of advertising and promotions Judy Lindsay in developing the campaign.

Campbell’s new appointment comes just three weeks after Burton Menswear appointed agency Mellors Reay to its 2m account (MW August 4). Campbell selected the agency after pitches from GGT and Walsh Trott Chick Smith.

Burton axed the group head of marketing post 18 months ago. But speculation is growing that the position may be resurrected.
