Guinness Brewing GB marketing director Rob MacNevin is taking up a new role of commercial development director for Guinness Europe.

He will be replaced by Julian Spooner, who joins from UK-based German management consultancy Gruber Titze & Partners.

Spooner was previously head of milk marketing at the National Dairy Council. He left in 1990.

Guinness Brewing GB managing director Mike Hughes says that MacNevin’s promotion is intended to train him for a senior international role within the brewing giant.

“Rob has been with us for five years and this role is broadening his development,” says Hughes. “Staff have got to jump out of the domestic market to get multinational roles,” he says.

Spooner, who is yet to join the company, will oversee all Guinness brands, including Enigma and Guinness Draught.

“He is a seasoned marketing professional, with the broad experience needed for the role,” says Hughes.

This latest reshuffle follows the appointment of Steve Day as strategic marketing manager at Guinness Worldwide last month (MW July 14).

Day was previously marketing controller at Guinness GB. He reported to MacNevin.
