Toyota GB hunts marketing chief

Toyota GB is seeking a new marketing director following the promotion of Graham Smith to managing director.

Smith’s promotion takes effect from January but the company is beginning its search now. His promotion was triggered by managing director Trevor Taylor becoming chairman of Toyota GB and chief executive officer at Inchcape Toyota Motors.

The marque holds just under three per cent of the UK market although it went above that figure for August. Smith joined Toyota 16 months ago and has conducted a review of all its marketing strategy.

“I will continue to supervise marketing through the marketing director but have additional responsibility for sales, aftersales, personnel and other areas,” says Smith.

“We are looking for continuity rather than large-scale change. It is important for the company to use the marketing to strengthen the image of Toyota and awareness of the brand,” he says.

Smith also quashed industry rumours that the 19m (Register-MEAL) account handled by Saatchi & Saatchi since 1992 is being reviewed.
