UA in global marketing restructure

United Airlines is appointing a new breed of senior marketing executives called “market champions” in key offices across the world. In the UK, it has appointed UA sales manager Rob Pope to the position while still trying to fill the vacant top marketing job.

The new positions are in addition to existing management but the “champions” have a brief to monitor each market closely and increase profitability.

The job is part of a wider restructure within UA, following David Coltman’s move from the UK to the Chicago HQ as senior vice-president marketing in May.

Three regional marketing manager roles have been created worldwide. UK marketing manager Jonathan Sumner is going to Chicago as regional manager advertising and promotion for Latin America. Bill Allenson has been promoted to regional marketing manager for the Atlantic, responsible for Europe.

A third manager, for the Pacific region, has yet to be appointed.
