The third annual Marketing Forum gets under way today (Wednesday) aboard cruise liner the Canberra. Exhibitors, who have paid about 11,500 for the privilege of attending, are optimistic about the new business leads it will generate.
Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters managing director Michael Finn says: “The Forum lets clients talk to people in the ad business in the open. There is none of that sneaking into agencies for a secret chat that goes on in London.”
Stephen Maher, managing director of MBA, says: “We have got some interesting people to meet. I’m quite intrigued to see how it will all work.”
This year 250 exhibitors – ad agencies, design firms, sales promotion and other marketing communications companies – will be in attendance. There will also be 500 senior marketing people aboard.
But some exhibitors are expressing disquiet about the level of seniority of some attendees. “I’m seeing minions with no real responsibility for budgets,” says one agency source.
