Macallan-Glenlivet boss in sudden walk-out

Macallan-Glenlivet marketing director Malcolm Watt made a surprise exit from the whisky maker last Friday.

A company statement issued after his departure says: “During Watt’s service there has been a measurable improvement in sales performance. It has been agreed that because the company’s immediate priorities now require a different focus this provides Watt with an appropriate opportunity to seek fresh challenges.”

The whisky maker refused to comment on the reasons for his departure. It has been reported that he had disagreements with managing director Willie Phillips about the future direction of the company.

Watt spent two and-a-half years as marketing director. He oversaw the appointment of ad agency Faulds Advertising last April as Macallan moved its 1m account out of TBWA.

Macallan is still considering whether to replace Watt.
