Duracell pools control of marketing into single job

Duracell Europe has restructured its senior management and appointed a single senior vice president of sales and marketing.

David Young, previously re-sponsible for sales and market ing in northern Europe, won the battle for total control against his southern counterpart Garry Bel-anger, who has now left the company.

Young has responsibility for sales and marketing in all 23 operating companies across Europe, including the UK, plus the standalone European marketing department.

The move at the $650m (430m) turnover company follows the decision by rival Ever Ready to centralise all its consumer marketing in Zurich (MW February 17).

“One of the objectives is to place greater emphasis on the emerging markets of eastern Europe,” says Young. “We are constantly refining the way we do business and there is the opportunity to share solutions to common problems whether it is advertising, sales promotion, distribution or packaging.”

Young says there are no plans to review the three ad agencies the company uses in Europe, which are Ogilvy & Mather, FCB in France and B Communications in Italy.
