Nestlé careerist David Thomson is to become managing director of Nestlé Rowntree next February.

Thomson, who has been with the company since 1968, will replace David Harris, who is to become chairman and chief executive of Nestlé UK.

Thomson’s previous role was as general manager of the Nestlé confectionery division in Australia but his career spans a number of marketing posts within the company. These include marketing director of the grocery division and sales and marketing director for Europe.

He will have overall responsibility for brands such as Kit Kat, Yorkie and Milky Bar, which the company supports with a 10m advertising budget.

His appointment follows a recent change in the marketing department. Two months ago Martin Corcoran, previously director of marketing for confectionery Nestlé Ireland, became director of marketing for the UK (MW September 8).
