Sega Amusements plans to appoint an advertising agency in the new year to launch the 45m virtual reality theme park, Segaworld, at the Trocadero (right). Sega has appointed former Walt

Disney Attractions marketing manager James Bidwell to head of marketing for Sega Amusements Europe. Bidwell says a significant advertising budget will be allocated for the launch of Segaworld and adds that further European Sega Amusement theme parks will be constructed as part of the indoor family hi-tech leisure park chain.

Norwich Union is launching a direct insurance arm, Norwich Union Direct, after the insurance company’s holding in Virgin Direct was bought out by Virgin. Norwich Union Direct’s head of marketing, Andrew Jackson, says that an advertising campaign through Saatchi & Saatchi will launch on January 10. The budget for the new division is understood to be more than 10m.

Susie Sleight has been appointed managing director of LGM Marketing Services, replacing Dennis Kerslake, who left the company earlier this year.

Graham Arkell, ex-managing director of KHBB, is believed to be joining TBWA as deputy managing director.

Quadrant Advertising has won the 250,000 advertising account for Chili’s fast-food chain, which is to open its flagship store in London’s Shaftesbury Avenue.

The ITV agency credentials presentations take place next week. In the new year, the eight competing agencies will be reduced to four and will pitch to the whole ITV marketing group. ITV wants work that will increase ratings and reassure advertisers.

Amtico, the upmarket flooring manufacturer, has drawn up a shortlist of three agencies for its account, worth up to 2m. The incumbent agency is Brookes & Vernons, the Midlands communications group.

Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO board account director for Sainsbury’s David Lamb is returning to J Walter Thompson as worldwide director in charge of the De Beers account.
