JWT’s video consternation

The Diary accepted a kind invitation to a Christmas party from a certain Mr J Walter Thompson, who is apparently something of a big shot in the world of advertising.

He was most excited to find, on entering the swanky Mayfair address, a pile of carefully wrapped Christmas presents on the sideboard. When it came to home time, the gifts were duly handed out to the assembled throng of hacks, who couldn’t wait until Christmas Day and opened the presents on the spot.

But we had been duped. They were not presents at all, but video copies of Mr Thompson’s showreel. On leaving the party, some journalists were so disappointed, they threw the “presents” onto the grass in the middle of Berkeley Square. The Diary deplores this littering of a public place, and hopes the gardeners of the Borough of Westminster can make better use of Mr Thompson’s videos than ungrateful scribes.
