Selfridges gears up for 60m own-label drive

Selfridges, the Oxford Street department store, is considering opening a store in the North as part of a 60m move to expand its own-label business.

Selfridges has appointed a new managing director. Vittorio Radice, former Habitat managing director, takes over from md Tim Daniels, who retires in April.

Sears-owned Selfridges opened an additional store in Heathrow’s terminal one last September (MW September 8 1995). The company is hoping for another outlet in Terminal Two.

Marketing director Lesley Exley says Selfridges is considering a number of expansion options, including a northern department store or concessions within existing department stores.

There are plans to strengthen its own-label brands, including the gift Signature range and clothing collection Essentials.
