Loto lists four for 10m brief

The company which runs the NHS Loto, the lottery that runs live on Channel 4, has drawn up a shortlist of agencies for its account, estimated at more than 10m.

Loto’s operator, Pascal & Co, has shortlisted Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters, TBWA, Lowe Howard-Spink and HHCL & Partners for the account, which will entail launching the Loto nationally after the spring.

Loto currently uses FSC, a sales promotion subsidiary of TBWA, to promote its live draw, though this is restricted to the Carlton television area.

The live draw is to be extended beyond the South-east into the rest of the UK this summer. Loto gained new funding in November after its operator Pascal & Co was acquired by Stenworld.

The newly financed company is planning to pump 20m into marketing the Loto’s national launch. It appointed lottery consultant David Lim as chief executive (MW November 24 1995). Loto’s marketing director is Craig Flint, who used to work at TBWA.

The national roll-out will include putting on-line terminals in corner shops, and the company is understood to be considering the launch of scratchcards.
