No Europay link for Amex tests

Our Web site address on the Internet is:

With reference to your story “Amex joins with rival for Eurocard test” (MW December 8 1995), Europay International is owned by, and operates in full co-operation with, European banks and has no intention of positioning itself in direct competition to its members by becoming partners with Amex – a non-bank competing organisation.

With reference to the Eurocheque card, it should be stated that the issuer is American Express Bank, a fully licensed and registered bank under German law. This bank, therefore, is fully entitled to issue a Eurocheque card enhanced with an edc brand mark, in the same way that any other licensed German bank or financial institution may do so.

This may not be classified as, or linked to in any way, a co-branding programme, and must only be interpreted as the issuance of a eurocheque card by a licensed German bank.
