Barnardo’s first head of marketing is leaving the charity after only a year.

Caroline Andrewartha, who does not have a new job to go to, is quitting at the same time as head of communications Alan Booth leaves to become head of public affairs at the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Director of fundraising Charles Holden maintains the two resignations are a coincidence.

He denies Andrewartha’s departure is any reflection on Barnardo’s performance.

“She worked hard to kick-start marketing and establish the groundwork which we can now build on,” he explains.

“She feels the challenge has been met and would like to approach something different.”

Meanwhile, Holden is to extend his board-level responsibilities for fundraising to include marketing and communications.

“We want to place far more focus on image marketing, rather than simply stimulating fundraising,” he explains.

The new heads of marketing and communications will continue to report to him.
