Morgan takes on Boots global role

Boots hires former C-T marketing chief to steer expansion of over-the-counter medicine brands

Former Carlsberg-Tetley marketing director Liz Morgan is joining Boots Healthcare International (BHI) to market over-the-counter medicine brands overseas and in the UK.

Morgan left the brewer in July last year (MW July 7 1995) and has been without a job since. It is understood she will be reporting to director of strategic marketing Peter Millburn.

Morgan will not have any line management responsibilities. Boots will not comment on her role. It is understood further changes to the marketing department will be announced this week.

BHI develops and markets otc medicines, such as Optrex, Nurofen and Strepsils, and operates in more than 100 countries around the world. In the UK its subsidiary is the Crookes Healthcare business.

Boots invested 32m in product launches, product development and marketing support for BHI in the first half of its financial year to September 1995. This repre sents an increase of 24 per cent.

The company planned to invest a further 45m in the second half, an increase of 50 per cent over the previous period.

This investment was one of the prime reasons for the drop in company profits from 9.8m to 2.4m for the same periods.

Morgan is best known for the launch of Castlemaine XXXX in 1984. She left two and a half years after the Carlsberg-Tetley venture was completed.

Before Morgan left the com pany, Carlsberg-Tetley cut its ad-vertising spend to 10.5m in 1994, 40 per cent less than the equivalent period in 1993.
