Bradley quits top Wickes position after six months

David Bradley, marketing director of DIY retailer Wickes, has left after only six months, just as the company concentrates on expanding its retail business.

Bradley joined Wickes in the middle of last year (MW June 2 1995) from supermarket chain Asda where he was general manager marketing and communication for only four months. Bradley replaced Edwin Birnbaum who was promoted to managing director of Wickes Continental.

Wickes recently reorganised its marketing department, creating a group marketing role which, says the company, Bradley was unwilling to take. Wickes claims he elected to take voluntary redundancy.

He received compensation from Asda after he left since it too had restructured its marketing operation and brought in Michael Fleming from Somerfield in a marketing role senior to him.

Fleming subsequently left after only seven months in the job. Before joining Asda, Bradley was marketing director for oral care at Smith Kline Beecham.
