Top prizes on offer in salary game

There is a new game in town for media directors. Known as the “Optimedia all-comers salary challenge”, its popularity has really taken off.

The rules of the game are fairly simple, you have to be a high profile media director with lots of mentions in the trade press and hopefully the odd big account win. The kind that will generate more headlines by moving to Optimedia to replace media director John Taylor.

Then you have to go in for an interview with Simon Lloyd, managing director of Optimedia. You go to the interview armed with the knowledge of what the last high-profile candidate had named as his price for moving, then you negotiate from there – upwards. At least six media directors who claim to have no intention of taking the job are believed to have moved the salary offers coming from Optimedia to the 220,000 mark.

If you want to be the real winner of the game you then use the offer from Optimedia to go and raise your salary at your current agency. Beats go-carting for NABS as an industry pastime.
