Ever since Ogilvy & Mather was exposed last week for digitally re-mastering brochure photographs of black Ford workers to make them white, the Diary has been made aware of a scurrilous rumour that another advertiser has been involved in altering physical appearances.

According to the rumour mill, the current Virgin Airway’s ad by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe only features part of its star Helen Mirren.

Allegedly the actress’s legs, which regularly featured in Caligula, Cal and The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, had to make way for the legs of a younger and more shapely body-double.

Mirren’s agent vehemently denies that the legs belonged to anyone else.

But if anyone can let the Diary know who the Prime Suspect is behind the “The World’s Favourite Hemline”, we would like to know.
