Molson managing director exits

Canadian brewer Molson is replacing its UK managing director Geoffrey Palmer-Moore as part of a strategic review of its operations in this country.

A company statement says that Palmer-Moore “left the company by mutual agreement to pursue other career objectives”. His replacement will be announced next week. However, the company refuses to give any details of the strategy review and Palmer-Moore is the only casualty.

Gene Lewis, vice-president of international and business development at Molson Breweries of Canada, says: “Geoffrey’s contribution to the Molson business in the UK over the past eight years has been significant.”

Palmer-Moore’s departure coincides with an advertising agency review which he is understood to have instigated. The 2m campaign will be Molson’s first major branding work for several years.

Five agencies have pitched for the account, previously held by HHCL & Partners. The agency created the high profile “Jim Dunk says ‘don’t drink it'” TV campaign.

Molson Breweries launched Molson Special Dry, its 5.5 per cent proof premium bottled beer, in the UK in 1989. It is brewed under licence by Scottish Courage.
