Electrolux the household appliances manufacturer, has appointed a new group marketing director as part of a marketing restructure to co-ordinate its brands, Electrolux, AEG, Tricity Bendix and Zanussi. Richard Sells, the managing director of the Swedish group’s Parkinson Cowan brand will take over the newly created role of group marketing and communications director next month.
Lever Brothers is relaunching its flagship brand Persil with a new scent, formulation and pack-design in May. It is also dropping the New Generation tag from its concentrated Persil product as first revealed in Marketing Week (MW Dec 15 1995). Industry insiders say the new pack design is very simple, uncluttered, and with much more white on it. Lever Brothers refused to comment.
Marina Ripa di Meana, the Italian ambassador for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (right), has bared it all for the sake of her organisation. The latest Saatchi & Saatchi campaign for the fund, which broke last week in Italy, features the 55-year-old grandmother with the line – The only fur I’m not ashamed to wear. One ad invites readers to scratch away the pubic hair for a surprise – the pressure group’s free phone number.
Procter & Gamble has been criticised over its advertising campaign for Flash Spray after a BBC TV show revealed that it damaged surfaces it is designed to clean. According to TV show, Watchdog, the ad was withdrawn after their investigation highlighted the problem one person experienced using Flash Spray on a fridge. A spokesman for Procter & Gamble says the company is reviewing the situation.
SC Johnson Wax is still trying to fill the position of vice president of home care business vacated by John Molan’s departure. Molan has now been appointed group vice president and managing director Europe with McCormick Foods. He previously held positions of managing director UK, and group managing director northern Europe with SC Johnson Wax.
Coventry City Football Club is hunting for another sponsor for its team, which is facing possible relegation next season. Peugeot has sponsored the team for six years in what is believed to be a 300,000 a year deal to have the car manufacturer’s name on the team’s jerseys. Coventry is presently fifth from bottom of the Premiership
The Design Effectiveness Awards are for the first time being jointly organised by the Design Business Association and Marketing Week. The awards are unusual as both the commercial success and creativity are considered by the judges.
