HMV awards 3m slice to Beeching

HMV has handed Beeching Dowell Stubbs an expanded 3m above-the-line advertising account in the UK.

The through-the-line agency previously shared a smaller budget with music specialist agency Quick On the Draw, prior to the music retailer reviewing its account in January (MW January 19). Mustoe Merriman Herring Levy and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles were also pitching for the creative account.

The announcement follows marketing manager Paul Goodwin’s promotion to the role of marketing director to replace David Terrill, who is leaving to take up the same job for HMV in Japan (MW February 16).

Goodwin joined HMV last year from Scottish & Newcastle to help set up a marketing department.

The media account, worth 10m in all, is also being reviewed and a decision is expected this week. The other 7m of HMV creative work is sourced abroad. CIA Medianetwork, the incumbent, has been dropped from the shortlist, leaving TMD Carat competing against BMP DDB.

HMV is devising a campaign to compete against Virgin Our Price.
