Procter & Gamble is understood to be planning a major relaunch of its detergents brands in August to counter the relaunch of Lever Brother’s Persil. The relaunch, backed by an ad campaign, will include a reformulation of brands including Ariel, Bold and Daz.

The Prudential has begun piloting its direct banking service, Pru Bank, in eight branches. The service, which is intended to be launched on October 1, involves selling mortgages and operating deposit accounts. Customers are able to buy services over the phone, or through the Pru’s direct salesforce. The new service is running in Dudley.

Rooney Anand, the man behind this year’s launch of McVitie’s chocolate bar Ace and the Penguin Dark, Mini and Variety products, has been appointed marketing director at Sara Lee Bakery. Currently general marketing manager for the impulse sector at McVitie’s, he takes responsibility for all the desserts under the Sara Lee umbrella. He will report to the company’s managing director Tim Smith.

Nat West Life & Investment Services has appointed Mike Kirsch (right) as head of marketing (MW February 9). He was previously head of group marketing at Britannia Building Society. Britannia is looking for a replacement.

Mike Jarvis has been appointed European marketing director at PC manufacturer Gateway 2000. He moves from his post as Worldwide Media Director and will be based in Dublin.

Douwe Egberts, the coffee producer, has appointed Adrian Luckham as managing director of its UK company following the departure of Clive Hay. He left to head the group’s operation in the Czech Republic.

Pepsi-Cola’s UK marketing manager flavours, Soren Mills, has been appointed European marketing manager flavours and will report to Yann Tardiff, director of core brands western Europe. Mills will be replaced by Nick McGrath, previously Pepsi’s UK operations manager.

Virgin Radio is looking for its first head of marketing.

Lesley Exley, former marketing director at Selfridges, is working at the textiles firm Courtaulds. She is a merchandising and marketing consultant in the Tencel division.
