Sainsbury’s cookbook is a novel idea

Sainsbury’s latest move to encourage young families into its stores is to bring out a new cookbook in its Quick & Easy series, called Cooking for Children. One helpful suggestion is to “serve delicious crisp cabbage with a big smile and encouraging noises about how wonderful cabbage is, and the chances are your children will agree”. If only it were so simple.

Other helpful suggestions are to give the same stuff you eat yourself funny names, and the kids will just gobble it up. Try Mister Stroni’s Soup with Pesto Toasts, Smiley Face Lasagne or Granny Button’s Special Fish Supper. Why not give them Mozzie Meatballs with Tomato Pasta or Swede-y Shepherd’s Pie, or even Lovely Rice Pudding.

Food, glorious food, indeed. But if all else fails, just give ’em hamburgers and chips, which is what they want really.
