Top Barclays player takes on L&G post

Legal & General has appointed Kate Avery as its new marketing director.

The former managing director of Barclays Stockbrokers and Barclays Bank Trust Company will report to Robin Phipps, group director in charge of sales and marketing.

Avery will be responsible for marketing across the group at L&G. One of her priorities will be to set up a direct sales operation, in addition to overseeing product marketing through independent financial advisers.

Avery replaces Paul Hopper, who was appointed marketing director in April 1995. He left the company in January and became managing director of the London Tourist Board in April.

Avery has spent most of her career with Barclays during which time she has been marketing manager of Barclaycard.
