Virgin eyes up the beauty sector…

Virgin is considering launching a range of cosmetics and toiletries and has hired the team responsible for building the Colourings range of cosmetics for the Body Shop.

Virgin has confirmed that husband and wife team Mark and Liz Warom are acting as consultants looking at “retail opportunities”.

The Waroms, who both held the title Colourings general manager, left the Body Shop in May to pursue other interests. They are widely credited with the success of the Colourings range which last year Vogue voted best cosmetic product.

Since their departure, the Body Shop founder and chief executive Anita Roddick has been personally overseeing the range.

The Waroms are working for Virgin Retail rather than Virgin Trading, but the company will give no further details.

If the range is introduced it is unclear whether it will be sold through a new Virgin retail outfit or alongside Virgin’s latest venture, Virgin jeans. The Gap already successfully sells a toiletries range alongside its branded clothing.

The Virgin spokesman refuses to confirm or deny the move, but adds: “We are always looking at a range of options.”
