Lenny Lottery, perfectly named

The Sun newspaper has always been a great friend to the National Lottery, splashing jackpot winners across its front page, and generally giving it the publicity it needs.

The newspaper even made its lottery correspondent, Aidan McGurran, change his name. It dubbed the poor Evertonian scribe “Lenny Lottery” and made him the Currant Bun’s voice of the Lottery-buying public.

McGurran gladly plays along with the joke, and when asked if Lenny Lottery is his real name, always says yes. One elderly Sun reader, who phoned in to ask McGurran about the mechanics of The Sun’s own lottery, asked the inevitable question. When McGurran replied that yes, Lenny Lottery was his real name, the reader said: “Well, what a coincidence – you being called Lenny Lottery and writing about lotteries for The Sun.”
