Household goods giant Reckitt & Colman is hunting a general manager for its UK over-the-counter medicines business.

Reckitt’s global marketing director for the otc pharmaceutical business, Alan Raymond, currently handles UK products, which includes brands such as Lemsip, Gaviscon, Disprin and Dettol.

Raymond, who will continue in his global role, was appointed marketing director of Reckitt’s pharmaceutical business in March 1993 and in November 1994 he was appointed general manager of the otc business as part of a restructure.

Industry sources believe the appointment is necessary to lighten Raymond’s load, though Reckitt will not confirm this.

Reckitt reorganised its marketing business into four global household categories and three core pharmaceutical categories in 1995. As part of that restructure, Reckitt appointed McCann-Erickson Worldwide as its global agency.

Since then, the company has been filling key appointments to consolidate categories. In May, Reckitt appointed Phillip Darnton as group director of global marketing for the company’s four core household categories.
