BMW (right) has ended a three-month pitch by putting its German account into Scholz & Friends, Hamburg. The agency handled the DM50m (22m) business between 1987 and 1992.

Welinder, the Stockholm ad agency, has ended co-operation with AP Lintas after four months, citing strategic differences.

Singha beer has handed its account to GGK Basle, for a European launch scheduled for this autumn.

Lee Europe has named Ron Mitchell as its new European president. Mitchell has previous experience at both Lee and Wrangler.

Bally’s French operation has been declared bankrupt. The company lost FF634m (80m) in 1994, the latest figures available. Eighty outlets will be affected.

Yves Rocher has put its FF40m (5m) French account into Alice after a four-way pitch in which BDDP, Jean & Montmarin and EURO RSCG also competed.

Grey has agreed to collaborate with Die Argonauten in Germany. It is a recently established agency handling only interactive and multimedia projects.

Lidl, the German retailer, is believed to have bought up to 30 sites in preparation for its entry into the Austrian market, first announced in 1994.

Swiss retailers Migros, Denner and Coop are said to be reviewing prices and developing discount concepts to meet the growing acceptance of discounters in the country…

… Barilla is merging all its divisions, including Alimentare and Dolciaria, into one structure to strengthen its defences against discounters and own-label.
