HMV marketing boss resigns after one year

Music chain HMV is hunting for a UK marketing director following Paul Goodwin’s sudden departure after only a year at the company.

Goodwin, who was poached from brewer Scottish Courage last July, resigned last week to take up marketing consultancy work abroad.

He had left his marketing director’s post at Southern Inns to join HMV as UK marketing manager, reporting to marketing director David Terrill.

Terrill left in April after

eight years as director to take up

the equivalent position at HMV Japan. Goodwin assumed the role

in the UK.

He has since shaken up the HMV marketing department, boosting the team from nine to 17 over the past year.

In February, HMV reviewed its entire 10m advertising ac-count and reappointed Beeching Dowell Stubbs, a through-the-line agency, to handle its advertising.

The 7m media account went to BMP DDB, which won against incumbent CIA Medianetwork and TMD Carat International (MW March 29).

Goodwin finishes this week, leaving HMV to fill his position as the busy Christmas season approaches.
