Madonna’s name is taken in vain
Paul Cardwell, creative director of Doner Cardwell Hawkins, knows a thing or two about how to get the best out of hotel staff.
On a trip to New York, he found himself in a particularly sniffy hotel where the staff treated him with a certain disdain. Cardwell has wide-ranging contacts across the media business, one of whom happened to be working on a promotional video for Madonna.
To show the hotel staff what was what, Cardwell got the contact to use Madonna’s personal phone to call the hotel and ask for him by name, saying the first lady of American song wanted to speak to him. When he got the message from the hotel staff, he said words to the effect: “If she rings back, tell her I don’t want to talk to her.” The staff began to treat Cardwell with a little more respect after this intervention.
