Philips has recruited Gerard Dufour from his post of executive vice-president at EURO RSCG Worldwide to become its senior director of marketing, a post based in Eindhoven.

Monoprix, the French supermarket chain, is testing self-scanning at its store at Neuilly, near Paris. The system is similar to that operated in the UK at some branches of Safeway.

France’s terrestrial TV channels are to introduce a classification system next week (November 18) designed to forewarn viewers about the content of programming.

Shell has moved its DM30m (13m) account in Germany from Alexander Demuth to J Walter Thompson. The decision was made without a pitch and was based on the agency’s work for Shell in Asia.

Springer & Jacoby has been voted Germany’s top agency in a survey of 298 of the country’s leading marketing decision-makers. It was undertaken by AC Nielsen on behalf of W&V.

Kraft Jacobs Suchard is launching its biggest promotion to date to support Milka, the chocolate countline. The scheme will run across 13 European countries and centres around major winter sports events.

BMW (right) is reported to be ready to follow Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen and Jaguar in offering a branded credit card. Aside from its home market of Germany, the card will also be made available through BMW dealerships in Japan, Australia and the US.

Opel has recruited soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer as its ‘brand ambassador’. The deal is believed to be for five years and to be worth DM2m (800,000) annually to the former player, now president of Bayern Munich.
