Candy boss quits after 25 years service

Colin Darwen, marketing director of white goods company Candy Domestic Appliances, is leaving to become a consultant.

His responsibilities for marketing are being assumed by Candy’s commercial director, John Hall.

Darwen, who leaves the company at Christmas, joined Candy more than 25 years ago.

Alberto Pedinelli, managing director of Candy, says: “Colin has given Candy many years of total commitment. During that time, he has made an enormous contribution to our marketing and sales growth.”

It is understood there are no plans to review the advertising account for Candy’s ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators and washing machines, which is worth 1.8m and is currently held by JWT Manchester.

Candy is a subsidiary of privately-owned Italian company Candy Elettrodomestici, which in June 1995 bought the Hoover Europe business for $170m (110m) from US company Maytag following Hoover’s free-flights fiasco.

The Candy group has a 12 per cent market share in Europe and is the fourth-largest manufacturer of white goods, after Electrolux, Bosch Siemens and Whirlpool.
