Sainsbury’s, the supermarket chain, has confirmed plans to extend its Watford-based online home shopping trial to other stores across the UK. The retailer, which is running the trial in partnership with Hewlett-Packard, is to offer the service to customers within the catchment areas of up to ten stores later this year.
The Telegraph and The Times both claim to have broken through the half-million barrier of registered Website users.
The Savoy Group has launched a Website offering real-time booking and information facilities covering its five English hotels. The site, designed by interactive marketing agency CHBi, will also act as “an interactive brochure for each hotel”, according to Savoy spokesman Wolfgang Winter. This will allow guests to view rooms and facilities online before booking.
Sabena, the Belgian national airline, has set up its own Website, in response to the growing number of rival international airlines already on the Net. The site, at http://www.sabena.com, will include flight information and details of special offers available to travellers.
CNN Interactive has been voted the top news site by readers of American Journalism Review’s Website, Newslink, in a 1996 poll. The Washington Post, USA Today, and the New York Times were runners up to CNN Interactive in the poll.
