Bozell snatches 10m Samsung

Korean electronics company Samsung has pulled its 10m pan-European account out of Saatchi & Saatchi and handed it to Delaney Fletcher Bozell.

The move comes only weeks after Samsung told Saatchi it had won the account, though no contracts were signed.

The switch has taken place because Samsung felt snubbed when Saatchi pulled out of a pitch for the company’s UK electronics account for “commercial reasons” (MW January 17).

Samsung European marketing communications manager Keith Lucas says: “Saatchi pulling out of the UK pitch precipitated the final decision to move to Bozell. It was clear to us if they pulled out of the UK it made their position representing us across Europe untenable.”

Lucas adds that Bozell will now represent the electronics company across Europe. Saatchi only represents the company in Germany and Lucas says it will review this situation in due course.

However, the board in South Korea has frozen the budget for the pan-European corporate image campaign because of economic uncertainty in that country.
