Guinness Brewing GB marketing boss Julian Spooner revealed a few insights into the life of the top-flight marketer at the Marketing Society’s evening lecture last week, “Thinking About Drinking”.

It emerged that Spooner never goes anywhere without a thermometer. “It’s not for medical purposes,” he explained. “It’s to test the temperature of my Guinness to get the perfect pint.”

Spooner, it transpires, along with the 50 top marketers from Guinness Brewing Worldwide, has also taken lessons at a recent conference on “how to clean a glass properly”.

The Diary applauds this readiness to adopt New Man credentials and hopes there is a similar enthusiasm when it comes to doing the washing-up chez Spooner.
