Lottery slating is not fair play

What a pity you chose to report selectively on the findings of the National Audit Office report in yout National Lottery Cover Story, “The dog with no bite” (MW January 17). The six cases picked on by your reporter were characterised by the NAO as “minor”.

The NAO’s key findings were: all sums recorded as due to the Distribution Fund had been paid punctually and in full; lotteries using basically the same equipment and systems as those in the UK have proved resistant to significant fraud; and the two types of fraud which could have impacted on the Distribution Fund had already been identified by the Director General and he had taken appropriate action.

May I also remind readers that Camelot was awarded the licence to run the National Lottery after a tightly fought competition. The company’s bid represented the best deal for the Good Causes, while keeping the least for itself.
