BBC Broadcast’s new marketing director, to be appointed in the next few weeks, is to review Broadcast’s roster of creative agencies. Saatchi & Saatchi, St Luke’s, Arc, Leagas Delaney, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe and a number of regional agencies are currently on the roster for the 5m account that is expected to grow. The shortlist of four candidates for the 120,000 job includes Sue Farr, the BBC’s controller of marketing; Paul Twivy, formerly Bates Dorland’s chief executive; and two others.

Esso has drawn up a shortlist for its 11m account which comprises Ammirati Puris Lintas, McCann-Erickson, Leo Burnett and one other.

HHCL & Partners launches the campaign for the Mazda 323 with an estimated 1m poster and press campaign this week (right) amid speculation that the UK account will finally move into J Walter Thompson, which works for the car company across Europe.

Michael Birkin, managing director of Omnicom’s Diversified Agency Services in Europe, has been promoted to president of its international division, also taking responsibility for Asia. At the same time, Tom Harrison has been appointed as president of DAS’s US operations.

DMB&B Communications Group has set up its own design agency. The new company, DMB&B Design, will be headed by former Thorn EMI marketer David Mace, who joins from Sampson Tyrrell. It has already signed up several clients including Mars, Fiat and Hutchison Telecom.

Zenith Worldwide has won $20m (12m) of TV airtime buying in the US for pharmaceuticals company Carter-Wallace. Zenith has also opened an office in Singapore incorporating the media departments of the local Saatchi & Saatchi and Bates Advertising agencies.

Littlewoods is launching a TV ad campaign to recruit customers to its Index Extra home shopping catalogue. It is the first campaign that Newcastle advertising agency Yellow M has done for Littlewoods.

The Financial Times’s shortlist is understood to be Saatchi & Saatchi, Young & Rubicam, DF Bozell and one other.

EURO RSCG will run the latest TV ad from Intel featuring the MMX micro chip this Friday. It is Intel’s first European ad that promotes a product rather than the corporation.
