A Swiss Valentine’s Day disaster

Spare a thought for McCann-Erickson marketing director Amy Smith. Setting off for a romantic weekend’s Valentine treat skiing in Switzerland, she had everything – the skis, the man, the plane tickets.

However, on arrival at the airport British Midland informed her that the flight was overbooked and her companion would have to get another plane. Our heroine spent the night in a Zurich hotel, alone on the most romantic night of the year.

Things got no better. Amy’s partner never arrived and she spent two ski-less days on the telephone trying to get back to London.

“To cap it all they shoved me at the back of the plane with the screaming kids on the way back,” says a crestfallen Smith. “I told them I wouldn’t piss on a British Midland plane if it was on fire.” Thankfully it is not a McCann client.
