Liam ain’t druggy, he’s my brother

As something of a lightning conductor for the fashion scene, the Diary was intrigued to see a trade press ad for a “yoof” marketing conference inviting readers to “come and hear the latest youth marketing techniques”.

The ad for the “youth perspective 2” event, run by Haymarket Conferences and set to be held at trendy nightclub the Ministry of Sound, uses as a headline the following quote: “Drugs is (sic) like getting up and having a cup of tea in the morning” – which it ascribes to Oasis bad boy Liam Gallagher.

It goes on: “If you market to youth and need to understand where Liam is coming from, come to a oneday conference at the Ministry of Sound and get a fix on youth.”

Except, of course, it wasn’t Liam who ran into a drugs storm with his outspoken comments, it was his older brother and the acknowledged brains of the band, Noel.

As everyone in the whole universe (even Marketing Week’s grizzled editor) knows the difference between Noel and Liam, it really would appear that those who can, do, and those who can’t, run conferences.
