Duncan George, sales director of Capital Radio Sales London, has lost out to Fru Hazlitt, Capital’s head of client sales, for the key job of sales director of Capital Sales & Marketing.
This is the new sales house which is formed from the merger of Media Sales & Marketing and Capital Radio Sales, London, following Capital’s acquisition of Virgin Radio two weeks ago (MW May 8). It will handle sales for all the Capital and Virgin stations.
George is understood to have been offered other jobs within the company, but has not decided whether to accept a post. “We are talking about options, but it looks likely that I will leave.” Capital Radio says he has not resigned.
Andrew Oldham, sales director of MSM, is also rumoured to be leaving, although neither he nor anyone else at MSM was available for comment.
Hazlitt, who has been with Capital for four years, will report to Paul Davies, commercial director of the Capital Radio Group.
Capital says the changes will be followed by more appointments as Virgin staff are brought into the new operation once regulatory approval for the merger has been obtained.
Virgin Radio sales director Kathryn Jacob is likely to have a role in the company and has been informed of the changes, according to Virgin. Virgin Radio’s sales department consists of 21 people, while Capital’s is 120-strong, so Hazlitt is likely to have a second tier of management reporting to her in the merged department.
Newly-licensed London radio station Xfm has appointed Katz Radio Sales as its national sales house.
