Hong Kong is the destination for Audi’s latest television advertising campaign, which is breaking this week to coincide with the return of Hong Kong to Chinese control. The theme of the commercial, devised by agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, is the meeting of consumerism with Communism, positioning the Audi A6 as an object of Western desire. The ad tells the story of Hong Kong customs police who fail to outwit the smugglers of an Audi A6. The film is accompanied by ‘reportage’ style voiceovers about the impact of consumerism on Communist societies. The ad, entitled ‘China’, will run nationally for five weeks during ad breaks in the news.
