Scottish FA seeks team sponsor deal

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) is hunting a sponsor for the national side for the first time in its history.

So far United Distiller’s whisky brand Bell’s and an unnamed Scottish high street retailer have been linked with the side, which is well placed to qualify for next year’s World Cup in France.

The SFA confirms it is looking for a sponsor. It is understood the football body has been talking to a number of Scottish-based sponsorship agencies for the past two months.

The association’s commercial department is believed to be looking for a three- or four-year deal, worth 750,000 a year.

Officially, UD says it has not been in talks with the SFA about the national side, but a source close to its sponsorship division has disclosed the SFA did approach the company.

It turned down the offer because the brand’s 6m sponsorship of the four Scottish leagues, The Bell’s League Championship, has another year to run. A spokesman for Bell’s says: “They make an attractive proposition.”
