Nestlé takes on Fuse with Maverick bar

The battle for share of mouth in the chocolate market continues with Nestlé Rowntree poised to launch a product almost identical to Cadbury’s Fuse.

The battle for share of mouth in the chocolate market continues with Nestlé Rowntree poised to launch a product almost identical to Cadbury’s Fuse.

Although the Maverick bar, due for launch in September, does not have a purple wrapper, its contents are almost exactly the same as Fuse’s combination of chocolate, fudge, nuts, raisins and crispy cereal.

The launch is surrounded by the usual secrecy. It is understood that when the product was unveiled to buyers they were searched when leaving the building to ensure they had not taken any Mavericks with them.

A spokesman from Nestlé Rowntree says: “We are always alert to new opportunities in the market; we are developing several exciting innovations, details of which will be announced later this summer.”

Last week it emerged that Cadbury is targeting Nestlé Rowntree’s Smarties, as well as Mars’ M&Ms, with a new launch called Astros.

Nestlé Rowntree is also rolling out a peanut variant of the Lion Bar, which is now 21-years-old.
