Chinese clan recapture Empire spirit

While a delegation of British Government officials were in Hong Kong bringing the Empire to an end, a group of Chinese businessmen and women were in Scotland plundering the Scottish whisky-making industry.

Campbell Distillers invited 25 customers from its sister company Casella Far East to learn more about how the stuff is made.

Bruno Roqueplo, chairman and managing director at Campbell, says: “Scotch has a very small proportion of the total spirits market in China and, working with our colleagues at Casella Far East in Hong Kong and Beijing, we are confident we can build share in this key market.”

In keeping with historic precedent, the Diary assumes that Roqueplo will be licensing this national treasure on a strict 156-year basis.
